Zoology is the study of animal life.
Zoologists research everything they think to ask about animals,
including their anatomy and interrelationships, their physiology
and genetics, their distributions and habitats. Human beings have
been zoologists for as long as there have been human beings. As
humans, we are intricately tied to animal life - we've depended
on many of them for food, work, and friendship throughout our evolution
and history....not to mention that we ARE animals!
My interest in zoology began when I
was very young. I remember being fascinated with animals from an
early age. Once, when I was a five year-old boy living in Montana,
my father came home to my brother and I with a surprise. With a
big smile on his face, he pulled his cowboy hat off his head, leaning
over as he did. He held his hat upside down toward us, showing us
the wonderful surprise inside - a small, brownish-orange, bumpy
toad! It was the first such creature I had ever seen in my life,
one that has made a lasting impression on me. In fact, my fascination
with creatures like these have driven me towards a career in zoology.
Through several years of school and
work experience, I have acquired varied interests in the field of
zoology, including anatomy, systematics, evolution, behavior, population
biology, and ecology of animals. I've always noticed that people
are eager to know and learn about what I do and what I know, so
I've decided to create this web site, hoping to pass along some
information that will give you a better understanding of zoology.
I've included the following sections of this web site:
Animal
Facts - interesting facts about interesting animals
Career
in Zoology - have you wondered what it would be like?
Zoology
Internet Resources - great internet resources for zoologists
Zoology
Library - a hand-picked list of a broad range of zoology books
Michael's
Blog - Here I discuss my latest projects involving wildlife,
and my thoughts on science and policy for issues involving zoology,
animals, evolution, and the environment.
Enjoy your visit to Michael's Zoology
Information Site! Bookmark this site and come back often. The best
part of this site is that you can interact with a real zoologist
by asking questions about animals, or about what zoologists do,
or about a career in zoology.
