Ichthyology is the study of
fishes. There are a total of three classes of fishes, including
Agnatha (jawless lampreys and hagfish), Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous
sharks, skates, and rays), and Osteichthyes (bony fish). Fish
comprise the largest group of vertebrates, represented by
more than 20,000 species.
